WASHINGTON—On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Treasury released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on the 30C Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit, which provides tax credits for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The guidance provides clarity for businesses and consumers so EV charging deployment can rapidly accelerate. Local governments and non-taxed entities can also leverage the tax credit through a special provision. The Department of Treasury and IRS seek comments on the NPRM until November 18.

Electrification Coalition Executive Director Ben Prochazka released the following statement:

“Because global oil markets are controlled by bad actors that do not share American democratic values, we must transition vehicles off oil to protect our economic and national security. Powering our vehicles with electricity that is produced domestically through diverse sources is critical but requires an expansion of our nation’s charging infrastructure.

“We thank the administration and the U.S. Department of Treasury for finalizing guidance for 30C, a critical tool to help build the charging infrastructure needed to charge the electrification transition of our nation’s cars, trucks and buses—moving one step closer to ending oil’s multi-decade monopoly on U.S. transport. The guidance provides much-needed clarity to consumers and businesses and will only help to accelerate transportation electrification.

“We look forward to continuing our work with the administration and communities around the country to take private capital off the sidelines, drive local investments in jobs and manufacturing, and build our electric transportation future.”
